Higher Education Research Centers
In 2024 and 2025, GOHEC revitalized the earlier project of the Center for International Higher Education at Boston College, initiated by Professor Phil Altbach. This initiative aims to create a comprehensive global “inventory” of higher education research centers and degree-granting academic programs focused on higher education.
A higher education research center is an organizational entity, either independent or affiliated with a university, that is primarily dedicated to conducting research, analysis, and dissemination of knowledge on topics related to higher education.
This inventory provides valuable insights into the global landscape of higher education research and training, highlighting key trends and issues that shape the scholarly field of higher education worldwide. The inventory and accompanying map not only capture a “snapshot” of higher education research activities but also serve as an exceptional resource to enhance communication and collaboration within the higher education research community.
Below, you will find the complete inventory of the research centers in the field of higher education presented as an interactive map and the table.
