A collaboration between GOHEC and CIHE Boston College

In 2024 and 2025, GOHEC revitalized the earlier project of the Center for International Higher Education at Boston College, initiated by Professor Phil Altbach. This initiative aims to create a comprehensive global “inventory” of higher education research centers and degree-granting academic programs focused on higher education.

The Inventory of Research Centers—now available below as a Beta version—provides valuable insights into the global landscape of higher education research and training, highlighting key trends and issues that shape the scholarly field of higher education worldwide. The accompanying map not only captures a “snapshot” of higher education research activities but also serves as an exceptional resource to enhance communication and collaboration within the higher education research community.
